It’s been a tough year, 2020! But it’s time to rejuvenate, get cozy, take your self-care up a notch and just enjoy autumn. I’ve curated a bucket list with lots of self-care ideas for you to make autumn come alive. I’ve attached a printable version which you can put it up in your home and make checking off things a big family experience!

Make Autumn Drinks

Apple Hot Toddy

A go to autumn self-care drink that warms you up!

Ingredients

295 ml apple juice with no added sugar (unsweetened)

2 cinnamon sticks

2 star anise

8 whole cloves

1/2 Tbsp honey for each glass (you could add more if you like it sweeter)

118 ml whiskey (you used honey whiskey) or bourbon

1 Tbsp lemon juice

3 slices of apples (for garnish)

3 pieces of lemon peels (for garnish)

2 to 3 glasses

Makes 2-3 drinks

Instructions

Step 1. Combine apple juice, cinnamon, star anise, and cloves in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil over medium heat.

Step 2. Remove from heat, cover with a lid and allow spices to steep for about 12-15 minutes.

Step 3. While you wait, grab glasses and add 1/2 tbsp of honey in each one.

Step 4. Add whiskey and lemon juice and stir to combine.

Step 5. Strain spices and add apple juice mixture to each glass and stir to combine. You can add more honey if you prefer it sweeter.

Step 6. Serve with cinnamon sticks, apple slices, star anise and lemon peels.

Enjoy!

Maple Cinnamon Latte

Ingredients

1/4 cup hot espresso or strongly brewed coffee

1-2 tablespoons maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch ground cinnamon plus more for garnish

3/4 cup milk steamed, dairy or non-dairy

Instructions

Step 1. Pour the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in the bottom of a wide mug.

Step 2. Pour in the hot espresso and stir to combine.

Step 3. While holding the mug slightly to the side at a 45˚ angle, slowly pour the steamed milk in the center to fill the mug and add a thin layer of the foam to the top.

Step 4. Decorate the top with an additional pinch of cinnamon if desired and serve immediately.

Creamy Pumpkin Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons

Who doesn’t love croutons!! But grilled cheese croutons OMG!!! This is a must try autumn self-care dish.

Ingredients

3 separate tbsp. butter

1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup chopped onion

2 cup pumpkin purée

1 1/2 cup vegetable broth

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 tbsp. honey

salt

Freshly ground black pepper

3 tbsp. mayonnaise

4 slices white bread

slices of your favourite cheese (cheddar works great)

chopped fresh parsley for the garnish

Instructions

Step 1. In a large pot over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon oil; sauté garlic and onions for 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 2. Stir in pumpkin, broth, heavy cream, and honey and season with salt and pepper.

Step 3. Bring to a boil and simmer for 7 to 10 minutes. Turn off heat and melt remaining butter for a silky consistency, then cover with lid and keep warm.

Step 4. Preheat a frying pan on medium-high heat. Spread each piece of bread with a thin layer of mayonnaise and place on the pan, mayonnaise-side down.

Step 5. Top with layers of a good cheese you prefer (cheddar is a good one for grilled cheese) and cover with remaining bread. Cook until golden brown, flipping as needed. Cover skillet to melt cheese.

Step 6. Transfer to a cutting board and cut each grilled cheese into 8 pieces.

Step 7. Divide soup into bowls, top with grilled cheese croutons, garnish with parsley and drizzle with olive oil. Serve immediately.

Stewed guava with custard

Guavas are mainly in season during this time. This recipe is so close to my heart, it was my grandfather’s recipe! There’s so much warmth and love in this recipe.

Ingredients

5 guavas

1 1/2 cups water

2 tbs sugar

4 sticks cinnamon

8 cloves

Custard (ready-made powdered custard)

Instructions

Step 1. Wash your guavas.

Step 2. Slice them up into wedges.

Step 3. Scoop out all the seeds.

Step 4. In a medium sized pot add sugar, water, cinnamon and guavas.

Step 5. Cook on low to medium heat for 12 minutes or until the guava is softish

Step 6. Serve warm with cold custard!

Roasted corn on the cob

Roast your corn on the stove on an open flame, rub some butter, salt, chilly powder and lime. Mumbai Street Style!
